5 Website Accessibility Tools for Small Businesses

5 Tools to Help Small Businesses with Website Accessibility and Online ADA Compliance

It’s important to keep in mind that not all the tools listed in this article are comprehensive solutions for website accessibility. Different companies provide different accessibility services. Sometimes, they’ll even tailor their services to a specific disability, such as with Google’s ChromeLens, which is dedicated to the visually impaired and those with color blindness. Because we’re still in the early days of online ADA compliance without any concrete rules at either the federal or state levels, it’s a good idea to review your accessibility strategy with a lawyer experienced in disability law so that you can provide the most inclusive website experience possible. For more, you can also read more of what we have to say on ADA website accessibility compliance here.

1. AccessiBe

AccessiBe is the solution our firm chose for our ADA website accessibility needs – you might have noticed their blue icon in the lower left-hand corner when browsing our website. Its inexpensive price tag and ease-of-use make it a good choice for small businesses. Installation is simple and should only take five to ten minutes. They use artificial intelligence to scan your website and provide updates to keep you in compliance as the law changes. Pricing starts at $490.00 a year and they do offer a free trial period. AccesesiBe is available for platforms including WordPress, Wix, and others.

On our website, we use AccessiBe and find it really helpful. If you would like to sign up for AccessiBe, consider using our affiliate link HERE. We do receive a referral fee and donate 100% of the fee to legal aid organizations in Florida.

2. Equalweb

Equalweb gives its users a variety of plans to choose from, including a free plan with limited features. They also provide automatic remediation for $1,200.00 a year with full remediation available upon request. All you need to do is enter a JavaScript code into your website that allows their team of experts and automated technology to work its magic. Your original code will not change. Equalweb makes sure that the only changes they make to your website are those that will boost its accessibility.

3. eSSENTIAL Accessibility

eSSENTIAL Accessibility takes a more personalized and hands-on approach to website accessibility than AccessiBe or Equalweb. The solution proposed for your business will be customized to its unique online needs. Much like our own firm, they don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. However, this level of technicality and customization also means that they cannot provide standardized pricing.

4. Online ADA

Online ADA hosts many free resources to help with website accessibility, but like Essential Accessibility, their pricing depends on the scope of the particular project that you have in mind. That said, they do have a free home page audit that you can use to get a taste of what they can do for your business. They set themselves apart from the competition with the team of compliance experts that are available to advise and guide you through the process of creating an ADA compliant website. Online ADA understands that this is an area of law that is undergoing a period of constant change, and as such, they also provide long-term support to help you keep up with new laws and regulations. If you’re looking for a partner in creating a more inclusive online experience, Online ADA is one to strongly consider.

5. UserWay

UserWay is one of the better plugin-based tools for online inclusivity and website accessibility. It gives you many options to work with while leaving your original code untouched and preserving your layout. You can install and configure UserWay in a matter of minutes, and the tools it gives you can be easily hidden or reset if you need to make your own changes. They guarantee that their widget will keep your website current with changing regulations and equip you with what you need to make your website as accessible as possible.
